This is idiotic. Who do you think you are to delete other's accounts?
I know when I pass away, I want my art to continue to be on display after I die. Delete inactive accounts? What if they just went away?
Yes, perhaps you're referring to accounts that have never been posted in. But still, these account's owners may have their own reasons for not returning; at least for the time being.
You have your name, why do you care if a few dozen others are free?
A waste of time.
DA has already told many stubborn Deviants like yourself that inactive or never posted in accounts WILL NOT be deleted. And I quote...
"Delete empty/abandoned ("dead") accounts.

This won't happen for 2 reasons.

Firstly, all accounts are kept for historical purposes. Secondly, what would happen if the deviant returned after a while and found that their account had been taken over by someone else?

With those two reasons in mind it has been decided that it is unwise and unfair to remove "dead" accounts.

Give it up. You're wasting your time. This is an art website, not a website for mindless petitions. This is practically a dead account in itself.
:iconforesakennames:
If you read the petition carefully (or if you even read it at all) you would realize that one of the suggestions I made was to give deviants an option to delete their account when they leave. When deleting a deviation, deviantART asks why. One of the possible answers you can give is that you're "leaving deviantART". Why can't there simply be an option to leave deviantART and delete your account????

On most web site hosting sites, for example, if an account is left unvisited for a long time, such as six months, it is automatically deleted. Some of these sites even send a warning via e-mail to the owner, just in case they didn't know. DeviantART should do the same.

HISTORICAL PURPOSES. . . . . .
What kinds of "historical purposes" are these, and are they really worth it????
Chances are these "historical purposes" are just to say that so-and-so number of people have already joined deviantART. In other words, advertising purposes.

If someone created an account, posted little or nothing, then left and "returned after a while", couldn't they simply create another account? Besides, if deviantART gave an option for deviants to delete their accounts, the person would be aware of the circumstances under which he/she would be leaving temporarily, and could ask someone else to look after the account for them.

I have a web site. A web site which I don't want to have deleted after six months if I die. In order to avoid this, I made a list of all my usernames and passwords for this purpose. That way someone else could make sure the site doesn't get deleted. The same could go for devianatART.

Deleting inactive accounts on deviantART would do more than allow people to have the username they want. It would also save space on deviantART. And if deviantART pays for it's web space, that would also save money.

Some people don't HAVE others to run their dead accounts for them. That responsibility can't simply be thrown around.

The references aren't mine; the're DeviantArt's. The whole part in quotes is an official statement released in DeviantArt, which is viewable in the Suggestions forum, in the Announcement.

Why are you bothering? There are other organisations, like yours, which are much farther along than you. One of them was permanently banned for this. Surely you already know that.
:iconforesakennames:
It is not up to you to decide how I spend my time. I think this is worthwhile, and I beleive it might work. Even if it doesn't work, at least the petition will bring the situation to everyone's attention, and show that someone thought it significant enough to start a petition. Naturally those organizations were "much farther along" than this one, but keep in mind that it hasn't even been a week yet. Even if I am banned, I'm sure that someone will follow in my footsteps and continue my work. Either way, I have every bit of information stored on my computer.

It doesn't matter to me whether or not that responsibility can just be "thrown around". That and any other personal details are none of my responsibility. It is not up to me to find you someone trustworthy. Why not ask your parents or another family member to look over your account?

Lastly I would like to ask you a question: If the petition and the list are such a waste of time, why do you bother wasting your time trying to convince me to give up?

Petitioning does not work in regard to changing deviantART policy. It never has, it never will.

You never know. If there are enough signatures it just might.
We don't have the power to change the past, but we can change the future.

There will always be those who disagree. The account I want, however, has never been used at all. There's no history. In those cases, I think it's logical to delete an account that is completely and obviously unused in any sense. Those particular accounts are a big waste. I wanted to delete two of my old accounts and couldn't. Now, on them, I simply have a "if anyone wants this, contact me at...", but that shouldn't be necessary. Why should I have to be on-call for DeviantArt's old trash? They could easily write something to permit old comments to remain after an account's been deleted. It's just a bit of code and a bit of time they don't use that their spaces and future members would greatly benefit from afterward and from then on.

The account I wanted is webvirus, for your little "W"s section. ^^

OUCH!...Banned. Kinda figured. The !deathlist (and also the !Deathlist2 "this will not work") campaigns didn't work for similar reasons.
:iconverwildert:
More accounts I've found~ rachmaninoff, chopin, beethoven, hamburger, hotdog, poop, stink, teacup, oktober, october, january, trentreznor, drseuss, budgie, cute, tomato, potato, soda, to name a few
I signed the petition... I don't think it will do anything though.
